Chapter 01
A pool fence is a safety system, not a boundary line
Most of the fencing we build marks a property line. A pool fence has a different job, and we treat it that way from the first walk of the yard. The gate is the part that fails first, because it gets used the most, and a gate that only latches when someone remembers to push it shut is not a safety gate, it is a regular gate next to water.
We also look for foothold. A horizontal rail low on a fence panel turns into a step for a small child the same way it would for an adult climbing over on purpose. Around a pool, that is a real problem, not a theoretical one, and it is why the panel design around water gets more thought than a run along the back property line.
Dog runs and garden fencing fail for different, simpler reasons. A dog run built to a generic size lets a determined animal work a corner loose, and a garden fence set for looks rather than for deer pressure gets tested the first week the tomatoes come in.

How we build each one
Every pool gate we hang is self closing and self latching, so it shuts and secures itself the moment it is let go, no second step required. Put plainly, our pool fence installations include self-closing, self-latching gates as standard, not as an upgrade. Pool fencing has to meet the code that applies where the pool sits, and that code varies by jurisdiction and can change, so we walk the yard, ask what the local inspector will be checking for, and build to that rather than to a generic spec. Dog run fencing is sized to the animal, not to a standard panel. Height and mesh spacing depend on whether we are containing a determined digger or a jumper, and the base gets dug in rather than just set on grade, which is what actually stops a dog working a corner loose over time. Garden fencing is built at a height meant to discourage deer, since deer pressure is the real reason most North Alabama garden fences go up in the first place, with rabbit-tight mesh low on the panel where that is the concern.
Security fencing and temporary fencing round out this category. Temporary fencing goes up fast around a job site or a property mid-project and comes back down clean when the work is done, no posts left behind in concrete. Every post we do set permanently, on any of these, goes in concrete the same way as the rest of our work.
Chapter 03
What to watch for after it's in
A self closing gate is only doing its job if the closer arm still pulls the gate shut on its own and the latch still catches every time, not just most of the time. If either one starts to hesitate, that is worth a call before it becomes a habit of propping the gate. The same goes for a dog run gate or a garden gate, since a hinge that starts to sag is easier to fix before it drags.
